China Arbitration Day

The China Arbitration Day 2012 will focus on corporate/M&A, commercial, intellectual property and arbitration. The event will take place from 16 through 18 September 2012 in Munich, Germany.

It is is organised by the following arbitration institutions:

  • China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC)
  • Beijing Arbitration Commission (BAC)
  • Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC)

Representatives from the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), the Beijing Arbitration Commission (BAC), the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) and the Chinese European Arbitration Centre (CEAC) will give an overview on arbitration at these institutions.

The event is being supported by the OAV - German Asia Pacific Business Association, the International Network of Law Firms CONSULEGIS, the Chinese European Legal Association (CELA) and the law firms of Bird & Bird, Brödermann & Jahn, Clifford Chance, Graf von Westphalen and Shearman & Sterling.

In addition, together with arbitration experts, legal professionals and representatives of corporations from Europe and Greater China, our speakers will provide the participants with practical experience and advice on how to handle and settle China-related disputes arising from or in connection with corporate/M&A transactions, commercial contracts and intellectual property questions. Chiann Bao

Chiann Bao is the Secretary-General of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre. She is a graduate of Cornell University and was a Fulbright Scholar in China. She received her law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2007 and her Master of Arts and Arbitration and Dispute Resolution from the City University of Hong Kong. Before joining the HKIAC, Chiann worked with DLA Piper LLP in New York where she was a member of the firm's international arbitration group.

Jens Bredow

Jens Bredow is a German Rechtsanwalt (Cologne) and Secretary General of the Deutsche Institution für Schiedsgerichtsbarkeit e.V (DIS). Since 2000, he is a permanent advisor to the German Ministry of Justice at UNCITRAL's Working Group II on Arbitration and Conciliation. Prof. Dr. Eckart Brödermann, LL.M. (Harvard), Maître en droit (Paris), FCIArb (London), attorney-at-law (New York, Hamburg) is Managing Director of CEAC, founding partner of the law firm Brödermann Jahn in Hamburg (Germany) and Vice Chair of the Hamburg Bar Organization. Dr. Peter Ganea

Dr. Peter Ganea is lecturer at Goethe University Frankfurt and coordinates the M.A. program Modern East Asian Studies. He received his PhD in East Asian Studies at the University of Munich in 2000. Before joining Goethe University, he was head of the East Asia Department of the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property and Competition Law, Munich. Dr. Li Hu currently holds the position of CIETAC's Deputy Secretary General. Shilin Huang

Shilin Huang is a Taipei based partner in K&L Gates LL.P. with a practice emphasizing litigation and arbitration for over 21 years. Boris Kreye

Dr. Oliver Pfaffenzeller

Dr. Oliver Pfaffenzeller is head of an IP team of the Siemens patent department and internal counsel for Chinese patent law. He studied physics at LMU Munich and earned a Ph.D. from RWTH Aachen. After completing his doctorate, he worked as a research fellow at CNRS in Paris. From 1997 to 2000, Oliver served as expert detaché at the EU Commission. Dr. Changfeng Tu

Hongsong Wang

Hongsong Wang is and always have been since its foundation in 1995, the Secretary General of the Beijing Arbitration Commission. She is Standing Director of Chinese Society of International Law and Vice-President of Chinese Society of International Private Law, as well as the visiting professor of China Foreign Affairs University, Central University of Finance and Economics. She is also acting as the vice president of the Asia Pacific Regional Arbitration Group (APRAG). Thomas Weimann

Thomas Weimann is a Düsseldorf based arbitration partner in Clifford Chance and head of the local L&DR praxis. He was admitted to the German bar in 1994. Patrick Zheng

Patrick Zheng is a Beijing based arbitration partner in Clifford Chance. He has extensive experience in international dispute resolution, particularly in international arbitration and alternative dispute resolution. He had been working at CIETAC for 8 years and handled more than 300 cases as a case manager and arbitrator.
