On 18th April 2017, the 15th Hamburg Arbitration Talks dealing with the "Arbitration in China - Recent Developments", organized by the Hamburg Arbitration Circle e.V. (HAC) took place.
Together with a highly ranked delegation of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) the members and guests of the HAC discussed arbitration related subjects with regard to China.
Mr Axel Neelmeyer from Schulz Noack Bärwinkel held a speech about the "Enforceability of German Civil Judgments in China - the Principle of Reciprocity" holding that there might be a wind of change towards the recognition of reciprocity by Chinese courts, but that the enforcement of German State Court judgements still encounters difficulties. His speech was followed by a presentation of Mr Jerry Yulin Zhang from Lawjay Partners, who spoke about the recent developments of CIETACs split by assessing the legal situation according to the Supreme People's Court. Thereafter, Ms Christine Kang from JunHe lectured about "The Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards in China" referring to a more and more arbitration friendly position of Chinese courts as to the recognition of foreign arbitral awards.
Finally, Dr. Li Hu, the Vice President of CIETAC, reported on "Recent Developments at CIETAC" giving a positive outlook on the growing number of arbitration proceedings in China and the envisaged cooperation between CIETAC and European based arbitration institutes like CEAC and DIS in promoting arbitration.
The Hamburg Arbitration Talks were attended inter alia by Prof. Dr. Eckart Brödermann (CEAC), Dr. Elke Umbeck (CELA) and Jonas Pust (Young CEAC).
